I heard about the 52 Week Project from a friend at school who did it last year and is doing it again. For those who don't know, many photographers, aspiring photographers, or people who just enjoy taking meaningful and artistic photos usually will at some point take up this challenge. The goal is a photo a week. It doesn't matter what it is or where it's taken, it just has to be special in some way, whether big or small. (At least that's what I've gathered.)
I'm not a professional photographer by any means, so these are the guidelines I've set for myself and my 52 Week Project of 2012:
52 Weeks. 52 Photos. 52 Blog Posts.
By Saturday night (at the latest)
of every week of 2012
I must post a picture to my blog
that I took during that week
and write about it.
Simple.
This project is more than another of my cheesy New Year's resolutions. I want to capture memories. I've lost far too many. Some might be gone forever. I'm not sure. Lyme disease and some of the other infections I've battled endlessly for the past three years have stolen a lot from me. Regardless, now is the time to take baby steps, move forward, and persevere. This 52 Week Project encompasses one important way for me to do such things; to fight back with forceful weapons of creativity, passion, and the strong will of a sufferer who's not willing to surrender; to remember where I've come from and remind myself of where I want go, what I want to learn and how I want to grow. I am calling out this year as one of remembering, hoping, and praying. With each memory, with each photo, with each post, may long-forgotten pieces of myself be restored along with the discovery of new pieces waiting to emerge.
Picture perfect or not. I'm ready. 52 Week Project 2012, here I come!
